What is considered a custom order?
There are 2 different types of custom orders:
- Custom designed artwork to be printed on a standard size of badge we regularly provide.
- Custom designed artwork to be printed on a special size of badge, badges with tickets, or with other special features that can be printed using our printing methods to fit your needs.
This will require 5 additional business days and the cost of a custom die. Cost of die will vary based on size and complexity. A customer care team member will work with you on creating a specialty badge and may need to modify your original design based on manufacturing requirements and restrictions.
Please see the link below for the sizes we provide without an additional cost and a Velocity Team member would be happy to assist you.

Custom Artwork
How do I provide artwork for my custom badges?
What are the requirements for providing artwork?
- Custom badge artwork should be created exactly as you want it to appear on the badge.
- Include bleeds when submitting artwork
- Vector files or high resolution images (Illustrator ver 6.0 or higher)
- CMYK colors if 4-color process, MUST be a vector file and have PMS colors if Flexo
- Convert fonts to outlines and include all logo files
- Save as an eps, pdf, or ai file.
What is the difference between Flexo-printing and Digital Printing?
Flexographic printing is a method of printing that uses flexible-printing plates made of rubber or plastic. Each plate is rotated on a cylinder and coated with fast drying ink. It’s a higher cost for smaller quantities (a higher minimum order is required due to set up) because of expenses for setup. Color precision is great because it uses the Pantone Color System (www.pantone.com) to determine an exact color for your graphics and can be a lower cost option for printing 1 or 2 colors with images that are not intricate that require very precise color registration.
- There is an additional $75 plate fee (per color) added to set up costs
- 1 color = additional $75
- 2 color = additional $150
- 3 color = additional $225
Digital printing presses deposit toner onto the material (substrate). Toner does not permeate the substrate, but instead forms a thin layer on the surface using a heat process. It doesn’t require plates to be created and requires less set up time than flexographic printing. It has a higher image quality because digital images are printed as a single image, rather than in color layers (as with flexographic printing ).creating a high resolution images. Digital printing can be more cost effective for smaller quantities by eliminating expenses for setup.
*There is a digital set up fee of $100 (this is to set up the files to be printed) Once we see your artwork we can help determine which printing method is best.
NOTE: Flexographic dies and digital dies are not interchangeable. Dies are required for all badges and labels to cut and finish the product to its final size and configuration. Die charges may apply for the printing process if a die is not already available for the size and configuration of badge/label.
What is the difference between Direct Thermal and Thermal Transfer?
- Direct Thermal (DT) and Thermal Transfer (TT) material are commonly used to make badges and labels. The material used depends on the way that the thermal printer will be used to print the variable information on the badge or label.
- Direct Thermal (DT) uses a special chemical in the badge material that reacts with the printer’s heat to create the image.
- Thermal Transfer (TT) uses a resin ribbon inside the printer that transfers the image onto the paper also with heat, but in a method closer to carbon copying.
I don’t see my printer listed, are your products compatible with my printer?
The printers we list are ones we have tested in our testing lab to ensure compatibility. If you aren’t sure if the specifications of our product matches those required by your printer, please reach out to us so we can assist you. We can provide some test badges for you to test in your printer.
We have products that are compatible with thermal printers (Such as Zebra printers) and ink jet printers made for badges and labels (such as Epson Colorworks series printers)
I have a standard office desktop printer, will your products work with it?
Our products are designed to be used specifically with label/badge printers that use Direct Transfer or Thermal Transfer printing. Our badge and label products would not be compatible with a sheet-fed desktop printer.

About Our Products
Can I receive a sample of your products?
We provide random custom printed sample of most of our badge products. We can also provide test packs of blank badges for testing with your printer. Contact our customer care team to request sample and test packs. Sample and test packs are sent via USPS at no charge. For expedited shipping, shipping costs may apply.
Are your products sustainable?
Many of our products qualify as part of a sustainability program.
Our tag stock badges, including our durable tear resistant DURObadges, are made from paper obtained from FSC certified forests. The paper is recyclable in may cases, but the inks, chemicals and adhesives used with the paper to make the badge or label may not be able to be recycled.
Our SuperBadge, while not recyclable because it is made from a synthetic material, does break down over time in landfills. SuperBadge is a durable, tear resistant material that does not require the use of a vinyl badge holder which will eliminate an additional piece of unsustainable material as vinyl badge holders do not break down in landfills.
